Biltmore Estates consist of 8,000 acres and the Biltmore House covers about 4 acres. The Biltmore House is a four-story French Renaissance manor which was built between 1889 and 1895. It is the largest privately owned house in the United States. The house has 178,926 square feet of floor space and 135,280 square feet of living area. The exterior walls are Indiana limestone. The steeply pitched roof has a copper roofline with Vanderbilt's initials repeatedly inscribed along the crest. Also visit the conservatory adjacent to the house.

 

Tours are offered for the house and the winery. There are several restaurants, a hotel and gift shops on the grounds.

Local Driving Directions:

From Interstate 40 East
Take I-40 east to Asheville. Take exit 50 (U.S. Highway 25), then turn left at the traffic light after exiting. Stay in the left lane and follow signs to the Biltmore entrance.

From Interstate 40 West
Take I-40 west to Asheville and take exit 50B (U.S. Highway 25 North). After exiting, stay in the left lane and follow signs to the Biltmore entrance.

From Interstate 26/U.S. Highway 19/23 East
Take I-26 east to Asheville. In Asheville, take I-240 east to I-40 west. Follow Interstate 40 west to exit 50B (U.S. Highway 25 North). After exiting, stay in the left lane and follow signs to the Biltmore entrance.

From Interstate 26 West
Follow I-26 west toward Asheville to exit 31A (Hickory/Knoxville exit). Take I-40 east to exit 50 (U.S. Highway 25), then turn left at the traffic light after exiting. Stay in the left lane and follow signs to the Biltmore entrance.

From the Blue Ridge Parkway
Take the U.S. Highway 25 North exit; Biltmore is approximately 4 miles from the parkway.
